Steak is one of my favorite foods. I have yet to find a steak that I did not love and carne Asada is one of them. Carne Asada translates into grilled meat in English and the amazing Mexican flavors that come from the steak being marinated and then grilled are absolutely amazing.
While I love to enjoy this amazing easy grilled steak by itself with a few low carb sides, it is also perfect for making a low carb taco salad with.

What is the Best cut of meat to use for Carne Asada?
The best cut of meat to use for carne Asada is flank steak or skirt steak. I use either one and both of them give an amazing grilled steak.
What to Serve with carne Asada
There are lots of side dishes that pair well with this grilled steak, I like to keep things simple and have the marinated and then grilled beef be the star of the meal.
How to Serve Carne Asada
The great thing about low carb Carne Asada is there are many ways to serve it. You can serve it as is with a few sides, make Low carb Carne Asada tacos using lettuce wraps, cheese wraps or low carb tortillas or turn it into a carne asada salad topped with your favorite salad veggies.
Carne Asada is also not just a lunch or dinner item. If you have left overs and are wanting to have an amazing breakfast carne asada goes amazing with a fried egg and some cauliflower hash browns.
How to Perfectly Grill Steak
Only Flip the meat once. When you are grilling steak you do not want to keep flipping it. Place it on the grill for the first half of the cook time and then flip over to the other side for the remainder of the cook time.
Cook the steak to your preferred doneness without over cooking.
- Rare steak cook the steak on the other side for 3 minutes.
- Medium rare the steak on the other side for 5 minutes.
- For a Medium cooked steak cook the other side for 7 minutes.
- Medium well steak cook the other side for 8-10 minutes.
Carne Asada Ingredients
- 2-pounds skirt or flank steak
- 2 limes, juiced
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup oil
- 2 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
How to Make Carne Asada
Marinate the steak.
In a gallon-size ziptop bag, combine the lime juice, orange juice, garlic, oil, vinegar, oil, salt, and pepper. Close the bag then squeeze the bag to combine all the ingredients.
Open the bag and add in the steak, close the bag and shake it to coat the steak. Place it in the refrigerator for a minimum of 2 hours, overnight is best.
Cook the steak.
Heat grill or grill pan to high heat.
Remove the steak from the bag and discard the marinade. Cooke for about 7 minutes on each side.
Serve the steak.
Remove from the heat and allow the meat to rest for 10 minutes.
Slice the meat against the grain, and serve.

Ingredients
- 2 pounds skirt or flank steak
- 2 limes juiced
