Keto Beef and Broccoli Recipe
I love Chinese food. It is my favorite takeout food and if I am being honest I could eat it daily and never get sick of it. While I can order some low carb options at our local Chinese restaurant I know that I am not eating the best option as they use flour when cooking their meats. Instead of giving up my Chinese food while eating low carb, I decided I wanted to make something at home that would satisfy my cravings for it.
This easy recipe is made with keto-friendly ingredients and takes just a few minutes to cook. It makes a great alternative to running out for some takeout. I love making stir fry recipes as they are so easy to make and clean up is always a breeze.
This Beef and Broccoli was a bit hit with the whole family. I made it and served it with Cauliflower Fried Rice and it was the perfect meal! While not exactly like our traditional Chinese takeout, this beef and broccoli stir fry recipe definitely hit the spot.

Is Beef and Broccoli Keto?
The Chinese food beef and broccoli you order at a takeout place is totally not keto friendly, they use flour to thicken the sauce, and many use flour to coat the beef.
This low-carb beef and broccoli recipe has no flour or thickeners and all of the ingredients are low-carb and keto friendly making it perfect to enjoy while sticking to a low-carb diet.
Tips for Making this Recipe
Choose the right cut of beef. For this dish, it’s best to use a tender cut of beef like flat iron steak, sirloin steak, flank steak, skirt steak, or ribeye steak. Cut the beef into thin strips against the grain for maximum tenderness. You can also use chip steak, you will not have to slice it as it already comes thinly sliced.
Don’t skip out on marinating time. Marinating the beef for at least 30 minutes before cooking will help to tenderize the meat and infuse it with flavor. I personally prefer to marinate the beef for 1 hour. If you want to meal prep in the morning so dinner is quick and easy at dinner time, put the beef and the sauce ingredients in a zipclose bag and put in the fridge during the day. Then when it is dinner time you have the marinating step done.
Use fresh broccoli. Fresh broccoli will hold up better during cooking than frozen broccoli and will also have a better texture. Cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets.
Garnish with sesame seeds. Sprinkle some toasted sesame seeds on top of the finished dish for extra flavor and texture.
Use soy-sauce. If you do not have coconut aminos you can use low-sodium soy sauce, you will not need as much of it as it is a stronger and saltier flavor, so use half the amount if you are using soy sauce compared to if you are using the coconut aminos.
What to serve with Beef and Broccoli
We serve it with low carb Cauliflower fried rice, and chicken cauliflower fried rice, you can also serve this low carb beef and broccoli with cauliflower rice or by itself.
What other Vegetables Can I add to this Keto Stir Fry?
When Making Beef and Broccoli I of course use broccoli. But if you want to add more veggies you totally can. Some great low carb vegetables that you can add are green bell peppers, Cauliflower, onions, mushrooms, and Snow peas. I do suggest that if you are adding a lot more vegetables you also double the sauce so you have enough sauce to cover the whole dish.
Can I make this dish spicy?
If you would like to give this easy keto beef and broccoli dish some spicy kick to it, just add some red pepper flakes when you are cooking it in the skillet.
Can I prep this recipe in advance?
Yes! There are a few things you can do to prep this recipe in advance. The longest part of this recipe is the prep time of letting the beef marinate in the tasty sauce. I like to slice the meat and make the sauce and have it marinate all day long while I am working and then when it comes to making dinner that part is done. Depending on the time that I have in the mornings, sometimes I will also cut the broccoli and then all I have to do is cook everything come dinner time.
How to store leftovers
Let the dish cool down to room temperature. Transfer the leftovers into an airtight container. Label the container with the date, so you know how long it’s been in the fridge. Store the container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
Can I Freeze this recipe?
Yes! In fact, making individual frozen meals with this recipe is one of my favorite things to do. Just allow everything to cool completely and then put into zip-close freezer bags or airtight containers and store them in the freezer. I like to use my Foodsaver and make individual portion sizes so when I want it for lunch I can just reheat the frozen meal and have a delicious meal in just a few minutes.

- 1/2 pound fresh broccoli florets
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or sesame oil (for cooking the meat in the pan)
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon fish sauce

How to Make Keto Beef and Broccoli
Slice the steak into thin slices, cutting against the grain.
Peel and grate the fresh ginger.
Peel and mince the fresh garlic.
In a small bowl add the coconut aminos, ginger root, and garlic and mix well to combine.
Add the sliced steak to a zip close freezer bag and then add the sauce mixture to the bag. Give it a little shake to coat all of the meat with the sauce.
Seal the bag and place it in the fridge for 1 hour to marinate.
Bring a large pot of water up to a boil and add in the broccoli, cook for 2 minutes then drain the broccoli. Be sure to drain the broccoli well as you do not want to have extra water in the dish.
Remove the sliced steak meat from the marinade, and set the marinade sauce to the side. You will be using this sauce as your stir-fry sauce.
Heat a large cast-iron pan, large wok, or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add in the oil then the beef and cook for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the pan.
Add the broccoli to the pan and cook until they start to get some color about 3 minutes. Be sure to stir while the broccoli cooks and make sure they are not getting super soft, you want them to have some crisp to them still.
Add the marinade sauce to the pan and then add in the steak meat.
Add in the fish sauce and toasted sesame oil, stir well and then cook for an additional 2-4 minutes until everything is fully heated and cooked thru.
