Are Hamburger Buns Keto?
Typically, no hamburger buns are not keto. They are loaded with wheat flour, and therefore carbs. The low carb buns that you buy at the grocery store cost a fortune and they can have sneaky carbs in them. Which is why I like to make low-carb hamburger buns at home instead of grabbing them at the store. When you make your own keto hamburger buns, you are getting a great tasting bun that doesn’t cost a fortune and you know is keto friendly. These buns are strong enough to hold the perfect burger.
Can It Be Toasted?
Yes, I love to toast these keto hamburger buns. I love using them to make garlic bread or as the base of grilled cheese.
How to Store The Keto Hamburger Rolls
Place the rolls inside an airtight container or freezer bag. The rolls will last for about a week in the refrigerator. You can also keep them in the freezer for a few months.
I like to reheat the rolls before using because I think they taste best when they are slightly warm. When the rolls are cold, they are not as soft as they are when they are warm.
Can I Add Different Seasonings?
The keto hamburger buns are a basic roll much like you would buy at the store. You can add seasonings to them to add more flavor. The great thing about these hamburger buns is that they are very versatile. You can add any seasonings that you like to them.
You can add things like Italian seasoning, onion powder or garlic powder to them. Another idea, you can also add in things like everything seasoning.
I love sesame seeds and poppy seeds on my rolls, so sometimes I add that to the top as well.
What Other Ways Can I Use this low carb hamburger roll recipe?
Use as sandwich buns. In addition to using them as hamburger buns, you can also use them to make sliders or mini sandwiches. They would be great for pulled pork sandwiches or even a chicken salad sandwich. I also love them for egg salad.
Breakfast Sandwiches. I use the keto buns as part of a sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich.
Grilled Cheese. You could also cut them in half and make a grilled cheese instead of using sandwich bread. I love using them for garlic bread as well. The options are endless!
Tips for making this recipe
Shred the cheese yourself. While it is easier to buy preshredded cheese there are ingredients in the cheese that are added so that it does not stick together. Fresh shredded cheese also melts better than the store bought stuff so it is best to shred your own.
Use parchment paper to line the baking sheet. You do not want the low carb hamburger buns to stick when they are baking and using parchment paper keeps them from sticking. It also makes clean up eaiser.
Change up the cheese. I like using cheddar cheese when making this keto bun recipe but you can also use shredded mozzarella cheese.
Make the buns smaller. You can make the buns smaller if you are wanting to make slider buns.
Low Carb Hamburger Toppings
I still like to dress my hamburgers the same way but to help cut out on the sugar and carbs you can use Heinz reduced sugar ketchup. If you want you can use slices of fresh avocado but love my homemade guacamole for added flavor.
- Tomatoes
- Mayo

What type of cheese goes well with burgers?
If you love a good cheeseburger then you can totally add cheese to these keto burgers. I suggest adding the slice of cheese when the burger is just about done cooking so it will melt just a little bit. You can use American cheese, swiss cheese, cheddar cheese, munster cheese, and really any cheese that you want to when making low-carb burgers.
