Keto Hot Chocolate
We live in the Poconos where we get lots of cold weather and traditions for us is snowboarding or playing in the snow and then enjoying a warm cup of hot chocolate. Going low carb I didn’t want to give up my favorite traditions that I do with the kids so I made some changes and came up with a delicious and creamy keto hot chocolate that I can enjoy while the kids enjoy theirs.
Lots of times I make a large batch and the kids enjoy some sugar free hot chocolate with me and don’t even realize that they are having some of mine and not theirs.
The great thing about this keto hot chocolate recipe is that it takes just 5 minutes from start to finish to make and I can make it on the stovetop (my preferred way) or in the microwave.
Can I make this in the microwave?
I prefer making my hot chocolate on the stove but you can make this keto hot chocolate in the microwave also. Just heat the almond milk and the heavy cream in a mug for 90 seconds, then add in the cocoa powder, sweetener and vanilla syrup and mix well.
How to change Flavors of Keto Hot Chocolate
If you are wanting to spice things up a bit, you can make this low carb hot chocolate into low carb Mexican hot chocolate by adding a pinch of cayenne pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg!
You can also use sugar free syrups to change up the flavors, there are so many different flavors you can make by adding a splash of sugar free syrup!
Add Sugar Free Peppermint Bark Syrup or Torani Sugar Free Peppermint Syrup for a Peppermint Keto Hot Chocolate.
Add some Sugar free Salted Caramel syrup for a Low Carb Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate. It tastes so close to my favorite caramel hot chocolate! I love it!
Add Torani Sugar Free Coconut Syrup for a Low Carb Coconut Hot Chocolate.
Add Torani SugarFree Classic Caramel Syrup for a Low Carb Caramel Hot Chocolate.
Just add the flavorings at the same time as you are adding the vanilla extract.
Keto hot chocolate recipe Toppings
When enjoying hot chocolate I like to make mine fancy, while this low carb hot chocolate is perfect the way it is I like to make it fancy.
Sugar free Marshmallows. I like to make some homemade marshmallows and add them to my hot chocolate.
Whipped cream. Homeamde sugar free whipped cream is a great topping to add.
Sugar Free Syrups. Sugar free chocolate sauce and sugar free caramel sauce are perfect when drizzled on top of a hot cup of hot chocolate.
Keto Hot Chocolate Ingredients
- cocoa powder
- pyure stevia, you can also use other sugar alternatives if you have a perference but I like using liquid sugar alternatives.
- heavy cream
- almond milk
- vanilla extract
How to Make Keto Hot Chocolate
In a medium saucepot on medium heat whisk together the cocoa powder and stevia, making sure to break up any lumps.
Slowly whisk in the heavy cream and almond milk to the mixture, constantly stirring until all the liquid is added.
Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
Remove the chocolate from the heat and add in the vanilla extract.
Top with some whipped cream and enjoy!
