Low Carb Keto Mojito
I am not a big drinker, but I do on occasion like to have a drink. I normally like to have a drink that pairs well with the meal I am having. My favorite low carb foods lately have been Mexican low carb recipes and so I wanted a drink to go along well with them. This low carb mojito is perfect! With only a few ingredients and a few minutes, I can have this keto mojito made while dinner is cooking.
This low carb mojito is sugar free, light in flavor but has the perfect flavor for pairing with a Mexican-inspired keto meal or just a summer night while sitting outside enjoy the warm weather. Since I am not a big drinker I normally make this drink and split it into 2 drinks, you can do that or you can keep it at one serving.
What is a Mojito?
A mojito is a cocktail that traditionally consists of five ingredients; white rum, lime juice, club soda, carbonated mineral water or soda water, and mint. To sweeten a mojito you use simple syrup or sugar normally. However since we are wanting a sugar free mojito, we have changed out the sugar and used a sugar alternative and use diet club soda. It has great flavors of a traditional mojito while being sugar free!
Is Alchohol ok on a Low Carb Diet?
When you first start eating low carb or Keto you are probably going to ask if drinking alcohol is ok? The short answer is yes as long as it is not a fruity sugary drink that is loaded with carbs. There is some alcohol that is zero carbs and ok to drink while you are eating a low carb diet. Also stay away from cocktails, most of them are made with sugary juice and loaded with carbs.
Is a Mojio Keto Friendly?
A traditional mojito is not keto friendly as it is made with sugar. This low carb mojito recipe is keto friendly as we have replaced the sugar with a sugar substitute. I like using monk fruit but you can also use granulated swerve to make this a sugar free mojito.
Are limes ok on Keto?
When you are making a keto mojito you will use fresh lime slices and lime juice. While citrus fruit like oranges are not ok while on keto, lemon and lime are ok for adding flavor to foods and drinks.
How Many Carbs are in a lime?
In one lime there are 7 grams of carbs. If you want to lower the carbs in this recipe you can use less lime. I prefer a bit more lime in mine and I am ok with the carbs that come from it since I stick to a more low carb diet then a keto diet.
What does it mean to Muddle when making a Mojito?
When you are new to making cocktails many of the recipes call for muddling the drink and you might be wondering what it means to muddle a cocktail. Muddling is the technique of mashing the herbs and flavors together. Add the sugar free mojito ingredients to the bottom of a cocktail shaker and using a cocktail muddler gently mash the ingredients gently 2 or 3 times to release the flavors.
If you do not have a cocktail shaker or a cocktail muddler you can use a glass and the back end of a wooden spoon.
How to Make a Virgin Mojito Cocktail
You can easily make this a Virgin drink by replacing the rum with any sparkling clear soda like diet Sprite. Any clear sugar free lemon-lime carbonated drink will work in place of the rum to keep it a low carb nonalcholic drink.
Keto Mojitos Ingredients
- 4 lime wedges
- 8 fresh mint leaves
- ½ ounce fresh lime juice
- 2 teaspoons monk fruit or granulated swerve
- 2ounces white rum
- 5 ounces diet club soda
- Fresh mint for garnish
- Lime wedge for garnish
How to make Keto Mojitos
Fill a cocktail glass with ice.
Put the lime wedges, mint leaves, lime juice, monk fruit, and rum into a cocktail shaker or a glass if you do not have one.
Muddle until the lime has released its juices (about 30 seconds) and give it a quick stir.
Add Ice to a glass and strain the mixture while pouring it into the glass over the ice.
Pour the club soda into the glass and gently stir
Garnish with fresh mint and a lime wedge.
