Fried shrimp is one of those food items that I have loved forever. When going low carb I knew I had to find a way to get my crispy on the outside while tender on the inside fried shrimp that I have loved forever. I wanted crunchy shrimp that reminded me of the breading that I love and set out to come up with a way to make a delicious keto breaded shrimp recipe and I am so happy that I did.
With a little bit of trial and error, I came up with this easy to make Keto Fried Shrimp recipe that was loved by everyone in my house. Shockingly no one even realized they were eating low carb food and all of them loved it. Crispy keto fried shrimp are the perfect way to stick to the keto diet while feeling like you are eating something that is a favorite food.

Can You Have Fried Shrimp on Keto?
The good news is that you can have fried shrimp on keto! While you won’t be using the same breading that you are used to from before eating a low carb diet, I am happy to tell you this almond flour fried shrimp recipe is flavorful and has the perfect crispy outside that you love with fried shrimp, while being a keto friendly option.
What Type of Shrimp to Use
You want to use raw shrimp, pre-cooked shrimp will not work for this recipe and to be honest, the taste is not the best. I am not a fan of precooked shrimp at all, I do not like the flavor of it and stick to using raw shrimp when I am cooking.
You want large shrimp that are deveined you can get ones with the tails on or the tails off, but you will want to remove the tails before getting started making your low carb fried shrimp.
Can I use Frozen shrimp?
Yes, you can use frozen shrimp instead of fresh shrimp in this recipe but you will need to thaw them before using them.
How to Thaw Frozen Shrimp
To thaw frozen shrimp, place them in a bowl of cold water. Change the water every 30 minutes until they are completely thawed.
What Is the best oil to use when frying shrimp?
I like using olive oil, but you can also use coconut oil, if you have another oil you like then you can try using the oil of your choice if you want to but I have only tested this recipe using coconut oil and olive oil.

There are lots of tasty side dishes that pair well with keto fried shrimp. What you are in the mood for will determine what sides you make. How to Serve Keto Fried Shrimp
You can sever keto friend shimp by themselves or on top of a salad. You can dip them in low carb cocktail sauce, sugar free ketchup, low carb tartar sauce, or low carb bang bang sauce. Just make sure that you are using a low carb and keto friendly dipping sauce if you are going to have a dipping sauce.
How to store Keto Fried Shrimp
These shrimp are best enjoyed when they are made, they do not keep well in the fridge.
Variations of this recipe
Change up the flavors. I like using garlic salt but you can change that out for garlic powder, old bay seasoning, black pepper, or any other spice that you prefer to use to flavor your fried shrimp.
Keto Fried Shrimp Ingredients
- 1 pound large raw uncooked shrimp
- 1 egg
- 2 cup Almond Flour Almond Flour
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Salt
- 1/2 cup olive oil
How to Make Keto Fried Shrimp
Thaw the shrimp if needed. When the shrimp are thawed wash and peel the raw shrimp. Be sure to put the cleaned shrimp in a bowl and set it aside.
In a medium bowl add 1 teaspoon of Garlic Salt and 2 cups of almond flour and mix well.
In a small bowl crack your egg and beat well.
Dip your raw shrimp into the beaten egg and then toss in the almond flour mixture, once all of your shrimp have been coated with the egg and added to the bowl of almond flour breading mixture, use a spoon and mix all the shrimp in the bowl of flour until covered.
In a large nonstick skillet add 1/2 cup of olive oil and heat on medium-high heat. You can use coconut oil if you would prefer.
Once the oil is hot, add your shrimp carefully in a single layer in the pan.
Cook for 2 minutes on the first side until golden brown and use tongs to flip them over. Let them cook on that side for another 2 minutes.
Cook the remaining shrimp until all of the shrimp are cooked.
Remove from hot oil and place on a plate paper towel so you can drain the excess.
