This Strawberry Avocado Green Smoothie
Can you taste the greens?
I am going to tell you a little secret. I do not like the flavor of raw spinach. Give it to me cooked and I am good to go but I don’t like it uncooked except for in a spinach strawberry salad. The great thing about this avocado smoothie with almond milk is you can’t even tell it has spinach! All the flavors combine and the sweetness from the strawberries makes it so you can’t taste the spinach at all!
Tips for Making Smoothies
Use a good blender. A cheap blender will not give you the smoothie results that you want and might not be able to handle blending frozen fruits. I personally love my ninja blender.
Use Frozen Strawberries. It is important to use frozen strawberries when making this recipe. They help with the texture and keep it from being to thinned out. I also use them instead of having to add ice to make my smoothie cold. If you don’t have frozen strawberries on hand you can freeze strawberries easily. Read up on how to freeze strawberries so you can have frozen strawberries on hand for whenever you need them. I have also found it is much cheaper to buy fresh strawberries myself and freeze them then buying them already frozen.
Add extra nutrition. When you make this easy low carb smoothie you can add extra nutrition by adding chia seeds, flaxseeds, protein powder or low carb yogurt.
Use fresh or Frozen Avocado. If you can’t find fresh avocado or you don’t want to worry about having avocado go bad you can totally grab some frozen avocado and use that instead of fresh. If you are using fresh avocado then you want to make sure that you are using a ripe but not over ripe avocado.
How To Freeze A Smoothie
If you are wanting to freeze a smoothie the best option is to prep all of the ingredients except the liquid in a freezer zip close bag. When you are ready to make a smoothie just dump the frozen contents of the bag and the liquid and mix with the blender.
Flavor Variations
Change up the milk. I like using almond milk when making smoothies but you can use any milk that you want to. Unsweetened Coconut milk, cashew milk, Macadamia nut milk and soy milk are other low carb milk options to use. If you are not sticking to a low carb or keto diet you can use cow’s milk when making this smoothie if you want to.
Change up the fruit. I love the strawberry flavor but if you are not a fan of them you can use another low carb fruit that you love. Some of my favorites are raspberries, blueberries and blackberries.
