I’ve been trying to fall in love with Chaffles – I even have a group for Chaffle recipes – but I was too scared to try Chaffle bowls until the DASH mini waffle maker was out of stock and I got impatient. So, I ordered this waffle bowl maker (the mint colored one is cheaper right now) and tried it out.
Spoiler alert: These Chaffle bowls are AMAZING and don’t taste like eggs at all!
Chaffle Bowls
I love this recipe! I am going to try my mini griddle in a bit, to see if I can make Chaffle tortillas. I’ll let you know how they turn out!
Can You Make Chaffle Bowls?
Yes, yes, yes you can make Chaffle bowls! I wasn’t sure but figured the mini waffle bowl maker was so cheap that I’d give it a try and let y’all know how it worked out. It worked out beautifully! The Chaffles held their shape well. I think the key is making sure they cook long enough. If your Chaffle isn’t crispy, it will fall apart.
How Many Carbs are in Chaffles?
Chaffles are a low carb alternative to bread, waffles, and tortillas. You can make them taste like anything! Next, I’ll be working on a dessert Chaffle bowl. I love to make homemade whipped cream (it’s low carb!), and I know a strawberry shortcake Chaffle bowl will taste amazzzzing. I saw these peanut butter Chaffles but haven’t tried them yet. Have you?
Eggs have .6g carbs, so I estimated this recipe at 4 carbs for the eggs.
Almond flour has 6 net carbs for 1/2 cup.
Part-skim mozzarella cheese has 5g carbs per cup, so that’s 15 carbs for the cheese.
The seasonings don’t have carbs.
For 6 Chaffle bowls, that would be 4g carbs each. If your batch makes 8, that’s less than 4g carbs for each bowl. Be careful with what you load your Chaffle bowl with, because those carbs need to be counted as well.
Compare this to 15g carbs for a flour tortilla and 30g carbs for a Belgian waffle, and you can see why Chaffles are seriously popular.
How Do You Make Chaffles Not Taste Like Eggs?
I asked this question in my Chaffle group and so many people said “mine don’t taste like eggs”, but every chaffle I’ve ever mad tasted like a crispy omelet. I don’t mind, but that isn’t what I was going for!
The best way to make Chaffles not taste eggy is to add some almond flour, seasonings, and baking powder. The amounts are in the recipe below but honestly it’s fun to just mix and match and see what happens.
Another tip I was given: use 1/2 eggs and 1/2 egg whites instead of just eggs. I wasn’t sure how this would work, but it did!

Rita,
Sorry! The cheese amount was left out of the recipe card on accident. I just added it to the card but it is 3 cups of cheese.
